Seaside getaway - Monte Argentario

Summer is in full swing and it is HOT! We decided to escape the Palio frenzy in Siena and head off to Monte Argentario - the southern most coastline of Tuscany (I think). Apparently Caravaggio drank himself to death on the beach of one of the port towns - Porto Ercole.

We booked a room at La Conchiglia, a simple (and very clean) hotel in Porto Ercole. After dropping off our things at the hotel we hit the beach at La Feniglia. The beach was secluded, with cool breeze and warm(ish) water. Perfect!

After a quick shower back at the hotel, we set off to La Serena for dinner. Food was great. Both D and I ordered a plate of fritto misto and fries which was thinly sliced. Sort of like fancy PRINGLES. After dinner we went for a stroll along the water front lined up with yachts, speed boats and tiny wooden boats. We also did some window shopping since the shops re-opened at 10pm till after midnight. Before heading back to the hotel, D decided to grab a brioche filled with gelato and cream.

The next morning, we didn't get out of bed till after 9! Even AJ enjoyed lazying around in bed. Breakfast, a visit to a small bar with a fish tank as a table, and then off to Porto Santo Stefano - the other port town in Monte Argentario. Side info -- apparently the mayor's wife is Indonesian (Javanese). I saw a shop in Porto Santo Stefano called Djawa with a becak parked outside. Pretty cool. After another lovely sea-inspired meal, we parked ourselves in one of the bars along the waterfront enjoying the sights, cool breeze and more gelato. Here are some more sights and flavours from Monte Argentario.
